Hello All! I hope this week has treated you well. We have a great issue for you this week, packed full of hot topics!
The article that really got my attention and made me think about what I am doing as a parent was, "Many Kids Feel 'Unimportant' When Parents Are Distracted By Smartphones, Survey Says." This is a quick and easy read but really impactful! This survey found that, "54% of children felt parents checked their devices too often." As I start to think about how much I check my phone---my heart sinks a little. I don't want my child to feel 'unimportant'.
It's funny because I start to think about my childhood. No cell phones and T.V. was not an obsession, like it is today. I don't know what it is like to see my parents look down at their phones all the time. I do not want my son to think that my time with him is less important than scrolling through facebook or instagram. And the more I think about it, I start to notice how I carry my phone EVERYWHERE--like even room to room in my house---that is sooo silly!
After reading this article and taking a moment to reflect, I am making more of an effort to put down the phone. I am not taking my phone in with me to bath time. I am going to enjoy watching my kiddo play in the water. I am also trying my best (yes, trying--I have to start somewhere) to put my phone away from 5:00 to 8:00. I am attempting to call this time 'family time' and get the cell phones out of the area. Here's to a positive change in our home!
Enjoy issue #45! Have a great weekend!
